My girlfriend who is 4'9" and 95 lbs had expressed interest in going big game hunting next season. The problem is that she's recoil sensitive. We did some shooting with 150 gr 30-30 rounds and that proved to be more than she is willing deal with. I'm looking for suggestions on low recoiling rounds that would have ample energy to take deer / black bear size game out to about 150 yards. I not a big fan of 22-24 caliber bullets for black bears so please keep that in mind.

A .260 or 6.5 Creedmoor should fit the bill as would a .250 Savage or .257 Roberts.

Our 8 year old daughter got her first buck last year using reduced loads/120 gr. bullets from a Rem. Model 7 in 7mm-08. Great caliber with lots of options for bullets.

.250 Savage. Kicks very little and kills very well.

The 260 Rem is just a sweet cartridge. Recoil is minimal and with 120-130 gr bullets you can hunt black bear to your hearts content.

Most of the suggestions given so far are going to produce as much or more recoil than a .30-30 unless loaded down. I'd recommend putting a good recoil pad on the .30-30 and sticking with that.

That's a cool rifle cartridge pairing for this very purpose. I was trying to talk my brother into getting one for his son that he wants to take hunting.

Marlin lever action 1894C in 357 magnum would fill the bill. Mrs. Plinker is petite and shoots it very well.

Bolt- 257 Bob/260/308/7mm Mauser or a ton of others if you reload.
If not, get a 243. Lots of dead critters say it works fine.

Marlin lever action 1894C in 357 magnum would fill the bill. Mrs. Plinker is petite and shoots it very well. I have one of those too. Recoil is very light and it's proven quite effective on deer. I'd be hesitant to recommend it to a beginner for 150 yd. shots though.
