No. It will ruin your barrel.

Odds are good if you use a 12ga 2 3/4" steel load in the 1375fps range with no pellet larger than #2 you would be fine for many 1000's of rounds. But your barrel is not as hard of steel as a modern steel shot rated barrel. It may start showing a bulge/ring in front of the choke. Its your gun and your personal safety, along with the guy next to you in a blind. Will it blow up? probably not, but it might ruin the value of the gun. As cheap as the Nova or 870 express is on the used market. It makes no real sense to use a mod12 with mod choke for steel shot. If you lived near me, I would trade you a Nova straight across for it. As long as it was in fair condition.

Thanks a lot guys. I have a bunch of shotguns so I have guns that will handle steel. I am selling the Model 12 Featherlight and I've been asked if could handle steel shot. By the way, I need $350.00 which I think is quite fair. It is in good condition, no problems at all. The previous owner refinished the wood. He applied about ten coats of oil and the wood is pretty shiny. It would be simple to take some of the sheen off of the wood. It is good "shooter" quality Featherweight. The only reason I haven't listed it here is I haven't set up a Photo Bucket account. Any questions please contact me. PM,e-mail or 801 966 7366. Thanks again for your help. Gregory
