There are a lot of cartridges that will work quite well but the only rifle that will work well is one that fits. 30-30 may sound like a low-recoil round but in standard stock dimensions with a plastic or steel butt plate it's going to kick the snot out of a 95 lb human. Just an opinion but I'd be looking for a decent Model 7 with 20" barrel and wood stock. Have the LOP cut by a smith that knows what he's doing and put a quality recoil pad on it. .243, .308, .260, whatever is going to kill deer without being loaded to the gills.
