If the feel on both is poor....Timney's can be set to be smooth as butter with no creep. A good gunsmith could tune up your Timney right quick. Military triggers can be tuned up nicely as well by a Q gunsmith. Some weld on a boss to add an adjustment screw to them to take up the slop. Is yours sloppy? It's all in the details brother.

Does anyone think I should swap out the rings from these medium height to low? It would look better and I could still get a decent view through the scope.

I'd go lows if they give clearance and your eye lines up better. I also think a scope as low as possible looks best.
Who did the semi inletting on your stock and how much shaping did you need to do? I'm being pulled towards doing up a nice mauser and would like to do as much myself as possible (and within my skill sets!) and really like the overall layout of your stock.

Randy Murray of Nyssa Oregon. The stock was cloned from my pattern(no cheekpiece) and another pattern of his with a cheekpiece. I reshaped the cheekpiece a bit at the rear. Figure 40-50 hours including final inletting.Lots of curves there.

Great looking rifle. Congrats on the work.

Those rings are not up to the quality of the rest of the rifle.

There are Conetrols and others that are finished well.

I may do a swap to Conetrols as I do like the look. Wouldn't hurt to shave a couple ounces as well. Thanks.

Thanks. I hope you find just an action someday. Maybe a started project or something.

Beautiful rifle. Great job!

Ain't a thing wrong with those Talley's except they need to be lows.
Conetrol's are nice but S&K's are better.

If you are so inclined you should consider having those Talley's color case hardened. Both rings and bases.

Heck, I'd CCH the bolt stop spring and the cocking piece as well.

Really a nice looking rifle. It certainly will hunt!! I have always let the scope tell me what height the rings should be, especially if I am going to hunt with it. Eye alignment is critical to me. I agree with nsaqam, there is nothing wrong with the Talleys....

Thanks. I am a big fan of CCH as well. Never priced any work or have any on my guns. I think this project is as far as I want to take it. But, 2013 is another year.

Thanks Gravy....so far at the sandbags the scope height seems just a tad high. But almost perfect on a quick point. Shootin' bench is low. So.... improper angle. I might do something different with the rings next year. Shot it today and results were just mediocre. I forgot the dang cleaning rod again. So, I only tried the superformance load. I'll try the standard load Sat.

That is a real sweetheart. There's something about a pretty little 7x57 that gets me hot and bothered. Excuse me for a minute.

I dunno Jon. It was a labor of love at first. Then it seemed more like work after numerous delays and a few other issues. I'm proud of the finshed product. But, I think the next one will be off the shelf or similar with an extra touch or two. I'm just not patient enough anymore. I got my eye on a Model 11 Luxus. If I see one in the right caliber & price, might snap it up. Some of those stocks are phenomenal at least in pictures. Thanks for the offer friend. Have fun. Ray
