I'm from a hunter's background, never did any competitve shooting.
I have a 223rem sporter weight rifle.
Are there any shooting competitions that I can become involve with this type rifle. Something that don't have to invest tons of $$$ into rifle, equipment, etc to at least be somewhat competitve but also have fun and sharpen my shooting skills.
I see high power silhoutte, seen website steel chickens, and while my Ruger 308win will enable me to compete and have fun, I think it may be a little expensive getting involed into the sport.
I think I'm half close to Ridgway,PA for those matches but don't know to much about it.
Thanks for the feedback.

If you can find a range that hosts NRA Sporting Rifle matches, that might be just what you're looking for. Same general 'flavor' as NRA High Power Rifle, but without the heavy/stiff coats, gloves, fancy slings, etc. and with somewhat shorter strings of fire to accommodate the mag capacity in most hunting rifles, and I think all the shooting is done @ 200yds. We have one or two ranges here in WA that host such matches; I think the guy that was winning for several years was using a Remington 700 in .223 Rem...

Being that you are in Pa. there are some ground hog shoots in the are that have factory class 100, 200 and 300 and some that run either 100 /200, 300 and 500. It is from a bench but most will let you shoot prone if you want.

Look for an NRA Sporting Rifle competitions in your area. Your rifle is about tailor made for those shoots. It gears more towards hunting rifles. I love that Sporting Rifle format.
