My local pawn shop has a spotrerized mauser in 30-06. It's one of those from Sears. Has a side mounted, old Weaver K2.5 and low safety. Stock is crap, but metal is in good condition. Can get it for 250. Is this an ok deal?

If it a Sears then it is a FN made Mauser, one of the best commercial made. Side mounts (if extra holes are drilled) detract from the value. W/extra side holes $250 is not a bad price, but not a great price.

A good friend of mine has a Wards version.....It is an FN total rifle through and through with Western Field embalzoned on the barrel. I just overhauled it after 40 odd years and it is a "tack driver". Beautiful Mauser....he paid 40 dollars for it in 1960. I wished I had one! Regards, Rick.

If it is indeed an FN I'd be tempted to buy it just for the action.

It would a nice basis for HMMM.. all sorts of things a .257 Roberts, a 7x57 .. all sorts of things to spend $$$ on <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I believe it was a Model 51 and if this is the one then yeah I would do it in a heart beat.

Good old actions.

Sears used to also sell a sporterized argentine mauser, that was rechambered from 7.65 argentine to 30.06. I'll bet it's one of those as the FN model 50 was marked JC Higgins and was a commercial sporter not a sporterized military action. The JC higgins had factory holes for a normal scope mount and I doubt even bubba would drill one for a side mount.

JC higgins model 50 was a FN and the 51 was a husqvarna.

My dad owned one of the argentine guns until some low life broke in and stole all his guns.

I'd feel good about $250 for any of the above if the side mount holes weren't too bad.

I'd jump on it at $250, but then I have a weakness for old Mauser sporters.

Add me to the list that would jump on it. In my neck of the woods there are very few of these to be found.
