Years ago, I built a heavy wooden one that size and it was crowded for two but workable. Had a 2'x4' opening for the spear hole and a tall old kerosene heater in the rear. Got so hot we sat in T shirts. Used a cast iron fry pan on top of the heater to cook up our mistakes. Brings back lots of good memories. Good luck with the project.

Neat idea!

We converted our wood burning stove to propane back in the mid '80's in our 4 x 8 spearhouse that Uncle Gene built. It was just too hard to regulate. It would either get so hot in there we had to crack the door constantly (letting light in) or we were freezing. Propane keeps it nice and steady. But knowin you ND, you'll come up with a way to regulate that wood burner just right.

Can't wait to see the pics of the house build. As you know, I'm thinking of doing the same but me and Daren still have that same house we have been spearing out of since about 1977 or so. Maybe we'll just give that some TLC and build a new one together next year.

*Edit* Come to think of it, Uncle Gence converted it to kerosene before he converted it to propane for us. The kerosene was not a very good option. Stove would either be roaring or would go out. Kind of like the wood did. It also stunk up the joint pretty bad if I recall.

I'm not much for flames inside small spaces. Might just be me, but Oxygen is my favorite gas I guess. Anyway, will you vent the stove so that it burn outside air instead of sucking from inside?

Good luck with the spearing. I've never tried it but it does seem to be a pretty interesting hybrid between hunting and fishing.

Good luck!

Griz, go with the iPad. They are the best. My wife has one and she loves it. Works flawlessly. I dont have any Apple stock, but it seems to me that there is the iPad and then everything else is way behind it.

Got my Pastor out pheasant hunting today. We got 4 and couldnt find the 5th after he knocked it down in the cattails. Good day, we saw about 70 birds. Hunted in the snow all day and got pretty wet, but what a fun day. Well until I got home and found out that Mrs Berettaman thought I was gonna be home sooner. I am in the doghouse now. Brrrr, it is cold in here..... eek

There are worse places than a doghouse with wet dogs and several roosters after a good day of hunting in Dec. How much snow did you get in your area?

Here are a few pictures of the wood stove coming together.

Door cut out and framed with additional steel from inside.

chimney hole.

chimney stub and cook plate installed.

door and draft vent.

Turn the T handle to open and close the draft, it seals up really tight.

there we are, legs on, a couple of ford truck valve springs for the dampner and door handle.

We lit it up to burn the old paint off, it will be easy to hit it with a wire brush tomorrow and paint it hi temp black.

It's goofy looking but we like it grin

Humm... Out hunting with your paster and your wife is mad ?

You might as well have stopped at the nudy bar on the way home.

You'd still be in trouble but at least you'd know why !

cleaned up and ready for a coat of hi temp black paint now. We did a stove pipe with an internal collar plug welded into the long pipe section, it fits like a glove.

Looks great. What brand of paint did you use? I need to repaint one of my tent wood stoves.
