Just can't seem to tune into any thing on the tube without an Aussie or Brit accent narrating the show.Awhile back I tuned into a bass fishing show only to hear the London/Sidney connection telling me how to throw a plug. Now that's just plain sacrilegious. We're talkin' an invasion of good ol' boy turf here.

Sad fact is the studies show Americans trust the Brit accent! It raises credentials with nothing but fluff... Perhaps complaining to the advertisers that they are talking down to you by doing so might change their attitude. But I doubt it.

Sorry, just couldn't resist.

Sitka may be right about the psychology. You surely must realize that the marketing and advertising types analyze us common folk like bugs under a microscope. Nothing like a little poking and prodding to discover how we react to stimuli.

I've always wondered why all ancient Romans spoke with British accents. HBO just reconfirmed it with their "Rome" series---every actor talks like a bleeding Limey. I thought the Romans were Italian, or something.

Many years ago I saw a Tarzan movie, or maybe Jungle Jim...the natives had a Limey accent...at the time, and being predominately from the South...I laughed my 'arse' off.

As to trusting the British accent, there may be some truth there. But being surrounded by Brit immigrants on three points of the compass as I ply my way thru retirement...all I can do is wonder if their neighbors bought the tickets across the pond for them. I KNOW the depths of their madness, thus my trust is dust in the wind...

Can you imagine watching "Gladiator" and everybody is saying in high voices, "Hey, watta you tinka you doin, uh!?"

Actually, I would almost rather hear any accent besides perpetual mush mouf. I know a lot of hunters in the Northeast and Northwest and never heard any mush mouf from them

Grew up in the South (well , sort of) and could easily distinguish between an Alabama, Georgia or North Carolina accent, but to be honest I never heard anybody speak with a generic "sounds like yer mouf's too full o' terbacky to enuncerate properly" accent.

Doesn't that mush mouf thing have something to do with the number of teeth available for syballic expression?

Not all of them. This one has too much Scotch-Irish DNA to have much use for the limey, accent or otherwise.
