what iron sights that are inexpensive should i put on my rifle. I bought a savage axis in .308 today at a price i couldn't really turn down. I would like to find some inexpensive sights but are still decent and have them installed by a gunsmith. so links to some good ones would be awesome.
Please dont tell me to put a scope on it i have several rifles that are scoped already and have just always wanted a bolt action with iron sights.
Second question. what kind of prices am i looking at to have a gunsmith install the iron sights?
Thank you!

Brownell's has some decent ones. I would not use a banded front sight. A plain semi buckhorn rear would look fine then get something like this But I prefer NECG sights.

I'll second that advice, and add that I would fit a receiver sight too. The folding rear sight would be there as backup. Being unfamiliar with Savage bolt guns I don't know if a receiver sight is available for them though.

I appreciate the help and i like the idea of the reciever mounted sight as well.
Only poroblem is every gunshop within an hour that has a "gunsmith" cant put iron sights on my rifle...
Anyone know of a capable gunsmith within an hour of Charlotte NC?

Count as a blessing that at least these "gunsmiths" seem to realize the limits of their competence.
Mounting sights is a simple job that is easy to screw up. Misalignment is bad enough, but a screw hole drilled into the bore or chamber is a disaster. It happens.

I find rifles are either good for open sights or scopes and 99% of new rifles aren't meant for open sights.

And thats a good point. Stock shape is a huge factor in what a rifle will work with best. True custom guns are stocked knowing what the shooter will use as a sight. High end customs are stocked to fit the face of the shooter based on eye position and sight used.

The Williams WGRS receiver peep sight uses the rear scope base holes for mounting. NECG offers several banded ramp front sight bases. A banded ramp can be installed without drilling by soldering or epoxy.
Rich or poor, it pays to have money.
