I'm strongly considering picking up a 9mm snub nose revolver. Does anyone have any first hand experience with a Taurus 905?

Curious as to recoil?

I don't like semi-auto cartridge chambered revolvers unless you are using full moon clips, extraction can be iffy.

It comes with clips.

I would prefer a Smith or Ruger as Taurus QC is iffy.

The Tauri have a great warranty but they need it, saw a lot of them when I was still 'smithing and always recommended they be sent back, some as many as 3-4 times before they were right. If you get a good one they are great but I don't like the odds.

There is always the S&W model 547...

My wife uses a 905 as he primary sidearm. It has been a decent gun. The Taurus moon clips are ok but the clips from TK custom are a step up.
Recoil is sharp but not at all painful or hard to control. My wife's gun prefers 115 grain ammo, sometimes 124 is hard to extract. All ammo is standard pressure. IMO 9mm is good round in a snubbie, if you don't mind moon clips.

I carried a Smith and Wesson model 940 for a summer or two. It ran the 5 shot full moon clips. Accuracy was good, but I eventually ran into someone who wanted it more than I did.

I'm not up to speek on the Taurus offerings, other than I know the shop I hang around has been sending a stream of them back to the factory over the past couple of years.

I'll add that none of those were the 9mm revolver.

Some of my recollections. The �stellar� moon clips that were provided were a bit on the flimsy side. They�re great at the range because they�re easy to load and unload. But if I were carrying a reload in my pocket, I�d carry regular old fashioned moon clips.

The Taurus 905 was made very well and easily had the smoothest DA trigger pull of all those that were tested.

Recoil is very stout, more than a .38 Special, less than a .357. It is not a fun revolver to shoot, but it would do just fine as a defensive revolver. With moon clips, reloads are fast, and more importantly ejection of empties is very much a sure thing.

Ruger made their SP101 revolver in 9mm Luger. I see them online for sale occasionally.

Thanks for the responses and information everyone. I ended up picking up a Smith and Wesson 637 this afternoon.

My original reaoning for the 9mm was ammo costs and only having to buy cheaper 9mm ammo. I've decided I will I'll just reload for it. Picked up the last brick of small pistol primers when I got the gun and he's expecting more dies in a couple weeks. I'll pick up the bullets and powder in a few weeks.

I think you came out on the upper end.

I'd reccomend carbide dies. Worth the extra money and pick up an extended shell holder since the 9mm brass is so short.
