I'm looking at archery hunting in the Pintlar area north of Wise River next year. Can anybody give me info on the area, herd, wolf situation, etc?
Thanks.

Scott-are you going on your own or with an outfitter?

So, what's their take on the questions you asked?
And, have you spoken with the biologist for the area?
Thx Dober

Haven't asked about the wolves but outfitter painted a pretty good picture when I spoke to him. Plan to call bio next week along with all references. Figured I'd get info from anybody else in the area if I could.

I feel the area around Wise River is as good as any in the S.W. area. North, South, East or West of the Wise River area seems very similar. I saw both elk sign and wolf sign suggesting the groceries are there for both to carve out a modest existence. Nice country for an archery hunt.

Talked to the outfitter. He hasn't seen a wolf in 2 yrs. He feels his area is as good as any. Still need to talk to biologist and references.

Scott- did the rifle that spawned the gold coin thread ever sell? I re-read part of it yesterday for old times sake while doing some searching.

Not that I know of. I moved away from that area 7 years ago and haven't spoken to the seller much since. I was just thinking about that thread a few days ago. Wonder if its still in the top ten in number of pages for a classified ad?

Looks like Stockton is probably out after talking to about half the references. Head guide is a good salesman but it doesn't sound like what I want.
