Those are assembly markings not a serial number which menas it's a Utica made 219 and won't have a serial number or a date code.
I've got two Utica's, no way of dating them.

The price on the 219 is $219. Odd isn't it. Is it worth buying? Everything looked tight and the lever was left of center. It is rather unusual and interesting to me. What years were they made? Thanks

The 219's and 220's were made from 1937 to 1973.
$219 might be an average price for them right now, they've come up in price in the last year or so.

MD521 & MD,
I'd like to hear more about the stamping. I ask because the Model 29's were serialed but in the 50's(?) the serial was dropped and the code stampings used.
MD521, does the 219 have a Utica address?
MD, do your Utica 219's have the code stampings?
Code stampings started on the 99's around 1951. I wonder if it was don't on all models at this time or changed over several years?

Ya, they do Rick, the 220 28 ga has EB stamped on both the receiver and the barrel, the 219 has V38L stamped in the receiver and the barrel. I can take pics if you want them.

The only numbers that I could find were MJ18 on the frame under the barrel. The pawn shop was using that number as the serial number. I don't remember if it said Utica or not. I will look when I get back over there.

MD, no pic's needed. Is there a difference between pre and post war Utica's? Any way to tell which you have? I'd like to know if the coding was something that started after the war if it was always used. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Rick, there might be a way to tell, if you go back to the "Stamps used on Savage firearms" page Steve sent us a couple years ago my 220 28 ga has the two stamps on the bottom of the page related to the Special lot I.D., the 219 doesn't have these stamps. Were these stamps used pre or post WWII or both?

They are not identified as to time period. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
