About ten years ago, while living in Ontario, I had the opportunity to go to Alberta to work as a wrangler for a bighorn sheep hunting outfit in the Rockies. I had never ridden a horse in my life, but I figured it was something I had to do.It turned out to be a wonderful, sometimes terrifying, often exciting and totally memorable experience. I spent 10 weeks living in a wall tent, riding 8-10 hours a day, climbing mountains and packing out sheep. I had a bunch of those little disposable camera's with me,and today I bought a scanner so I couold transfer just a few of those photo's to my computer.Thought I'd share a few, perhaps others will enjoy thenm too,and have pics of their own to share. My favorite horse,Oreo, who damn near killed me,but could run longer and faster than just about all of our 50+ head. Packing supplies into main camp. The Wilmore, where we hunted,is accesible only to horses and foot traffic,so everything came in this way. Fly camp, about 18-20 hour ride in.This is where I walked to in the dark each morning to bring the horses in for the days hunt. View from one of the mountain tops, searching for rams. At the base, getting ready to climb.Best water ever. Bringing supplies to an elk hunting spike camp, called "over the rock"carzy steep, narrow trail, which we retuned on in the pitch dark.Fun times. Little Jack, the ass, bringing back an elk.Angel is just behind hi.Interesting liitle animals, tough as nails and strong as hell.Oh yeah, and stuborn too.
