I have a Stevens single shot break open .410 I inherited from my grandfather. I'm trying to figure out what year it was manufactured, what model it is, and if there are any diagrams/manuals that exist for it.

Printed on one side of the receiver:
J.STEVENS ARMS COMPANY
CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U.S.A.
------MADE IN USA----------

Other side:
TRADEMARK
STEVENS
REG. U.S. PAT. OFF & FGN.

There is also a letter "I" inside a circle to the left & above that writing.

Barrel says:
HIGH PRESSURE COMPRESSION STEEL
BARREL AND LUG FORGED IN ONE PIECE

410 BORE OR 12 M-M

On the inside of the receiver, it is stamped
933CW (? serial number)

The barrel measures 26 inches.

Thanks for any input.

It's either a model 106 or a 108 all depending on how it extracts the shell.

The I is just an inspectors stamp or an assembly mark, not a date code, those guns were made before Savage brought the Stevens name into their own.

What is different about how models 106 and 108 extract the shells?

Can I tell somehow by looking at it or can I take a certain picture which would help you tell? Thanks.

Sorry but no...i have never heard of a model 106 or 108 until today I thought it was made after savage bought the stevens plant.

Have you tried contacting savage/stevens...they might be able to help

The 108 will have an automatic ejector, the 106 will have a plain extractor.

Can you tell from the pictures which mine is? The shell doesn't eject forcefully when opened but it does have the piece underneath which moves the shell out a small amount. So, is that an automatic ejector or a plain extractor? Sorry I'm not very knowledgeable on these kind of particular terms. Thanks

That would be an extractor, an ejector would shoot the shell right out of the barrel.

Usually you see extractors in O/U shotguns so it doesn't spit both shells out and if you only shoot one barrel it can be reloaded without having to load both barrels again, get it?

I have a ss shot stevens somewhere here that has no means of extraction the slots are cut but no parts fill them. Nice old 410 but for a kids gun will not work.

The caliber/guage marking on the original poster's gun indicates it is an early .410 or a later model intended for export. It probably won't chamber 3" .410 shells unless it has been rechambered.

Thanks guys for all the input. I agree I do not think it is sized for 3" shells.

"Authorities disagree" but the 3" shell wasn't standardized until 1935 or 36, so earlier .410s usually won't chamber it. The 12mm marking was an old designation for the .410 which lingered on for a while in Latin America and Europe. You'll also find foreign made .410s marked "36 ga." which is confusing (and also not even near accurate).
