Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

Thinking of adding a general purpose .40 S&W, in either a full size or Commander-size(compact) pistol. Probably not interested in a subcompact, like a Kahr or EMP.
I have a 1911 barrel in .40, and a couple of Colt Deltas that could run it, but I've tried it in 1911 variants in the past, but think it really belongs in a different platform. I've owned a Glock Model 22 in the past, but don't particularly want another Glock. I sorta like the M&P .40, and there are versions locally for sale with, and without the thumb safety.
Are there any pistols out there that were designed primarily for the .40, rather than on a 9mm frame?
Thanks in advance This is my favorite: Below it is my favorite 45. Have a 9mm just like these (in the mail), coming this way as we speak.... you now need the 1006

Thanks in advance I can't remember the area of Texas you said you moved to, but I've been in Cabela's in Fort Worth and Buda. On 3 January, they're starting their after-the-holidays sale. The Witness is regularly $350 but is going to be $295 in 9mm or 40. Made in Italy. I don't have one, but am thinking on it. 10mm would be more attractive.

We have owned a Hi-Power, an M&P compact, a SW99 compact, an XD sub-compact, and a Glock 23. Not a bad one in the bunch! Almost forgot...also had an S&W 4006 and a 4053!

I don't think anything beats a 4006, but since I gave mine to my son to protect his family with, I'm packin' a FNP-40. So far, I'm liking it.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I've never owned a .40...probably never will....but if a Generation III Glock 35 came a long at the right price I would buy it.... It would then get Lone Wolf barrels in .40, .357 SIG and 9mm...

I was just going to mention the P30 when I saw your post, tex n cal.
My dad has an HK P30S in 40S&W, and I've shot it a fair amount. I don't carry concealed, but I *love* that gun, and it could definitely be EDC, unless you need something really small. It shoots great, and has proved super-reliable. And I almost couldn't believe how comfortable it was--as though the grip had been made for my hand.
Notice that I said it is the P30S--that is the DA/SA version with the thumb safety (it's down to fire and in the right place like a 1911, not that weird up to fire safety the 92FS has). Some may not like that, but it means that if you want you can carry it cocked and locked like a 1911 or just ignore the safety and carry it as a DA/SA. In any case, setting aside the "S" variant, I think the P30 is a great gun (albeit a bit pricey, and with less aftermarket stuff).

Thanks Montana: I knew I had seen it somewhere,
My favorite 40s are my Hi-Powers...but lately I have been carrying a Ruger SR40C as a sidearm while hunting. The Ruger will cycle the CCI shotshells I use for snake and pest control. The stiff spring of the Brownings will not cycle those rounds. For an inexpensive weapon, I have been pleasantly surprised by the performance of the Ruger.

I've been very happy with my CZ-75B in .40 S&W. And I have an old Star Firestar that's still a pretty good little shooter.
