You may need a blood trail.

This sombeesh might do the trick. It's a 250 grainer (308 win case below it):

That should do it.

Yeah, if you can get it to fly straight grin...It has the bc of a telephone pole though....Hell, you can run it both ways...Flat base or boat tail grin...take your pick...

Kind of like shooting cottontails with a .44 mag. Don't worry about which bullet to use ...anything with a 300 will do the job on a whitetail.

I agree with vapodog on the SII. While I have only taken a couple animals with them, one being a mtn goat the other a blacktail both were quatering away & left big holes on the off side neck from my 300 rum.

a month ago I shot a rather large Kansas whitetail buck with my 300 WM using a regular 180 gr Hornady spitzer. the only shot i had was very slightly quartering away, so I hit him entering the middle of the back leg to angle through the vitals. Not ideal I know, but it was that or not at all, and the fact that i had my 300 as opposed to my 243, 260, 270 or 308 was an significant consideration in my mind when I took that particular shot requiring so much penetration. after waiting 40 minutes to follow up, it turned out there was blood trail whatsoever that I could find. I did find the buck quickly as he had only gone about 35 yards and was dead, just no exit wound. Didn't find the bullet so I assume it ended up somewhere in the front vital organs.
My point? There are some occasions when there may be some advantage to that cartridge even on a whitetail, and the question should not be derided altogether. The 180 interlock did the job but a Barnes TTSX probably would have added the reassurance of a blood trail from an exit hole.

Huge hole = frangible bullet. AMax, BT, or similar. You already have the caliber and velocity to make a big hole if that's what you want. A Berger might do it for you.

The .243, .260, .270, or .308 would have done the same job with a Nosler Partition...I've done it with the first two, which tells me the second two would do it as well. Love me my .260!

Not sure on WT but I purposely picked up a .300 winmag to see how many pigs I could shoot thru at range while shooting them at night from a high rack.

An average of 2-3 depending on how big of a big you wind up hitting on the back side, using a 180gr partition.

indeed i concur that any of the other 4 would have also done the job with nosler partitions. and in fact my 260 (Cooper 54) is my favorite deer rifle too. admittedly may have been purely psychological (which can be some practical benefit in terms of confidence at least) but in this case i was glad i had the 300 (Tikka 695).

Wow...Cooper 54, that must be sweet! And psychological counts for a LOT - otherwise we wouldn't strive for little groups with hunting rifles.
