Consider using a .22RF barrel (1/16 twist) in a .22 Hornet project?

it will be a bit tight with the rimfire's .222" bore...but I guess you could load your Hornet like the older ones with a .223" bullet. I load mine with a .224" bullet. As a matter of fact, you could probably stuff a .224" bullet thru a .222" bore with only a slight rise in pressure IMHO. Afterall, the Ruger Single Six has a .222" bore and a 22 Mag cylinder which uses a a .224" bullet.

Good info..
I have a 29" Martini take-off 22 rimfire barrel sitting around waiting for something like this!!!
I don't want to use it for another 22 rimfire, so maybe the Hornet is the answer.

Please note that many 22rf barrels were made from steel that is not suitable for use with higher intensity (than 22rf) cartridges using jacketed bullets. This is not necessarily a quality issue either. Given the low pressure, low velocity and soft lead bullets used for 22rf, barrelmakers sometimes selected a steel with easy machinability being the primary consideration. This allowed for a superb internal finish with less production hassle.

it dosen't matter. I have a mdl23 c and I would bet it has a smaller bore size I have never checked it. I beleive all new 22 hornet ammo has .224 bullets. thats what I use to reload with. I will check the bore to see what it is. but it still won't change anythind I do,,,

I read somewhere that the first Hornets were 22LR Springfields, converted to Hornet. Thus the .223 bullets...

I'm pretty sure that you have that backwards. The Ruger single six has a .224 barrel for the 22mag and usually has lackluster accuracy with the .22 longrifles. Even the single sixs that didn't come with the convertible cylinder had the oversized bore in case someone got ahold of a Magnum cylinder. The Ruger auto-loaders have a .222 groove diameter and shoot circles around the wheel guns.
I own these handguns and measured them before typing this to make sure.

You could cast your own soft lead bullets and run them through a sizer.

i could be wrong but have heard from more than one place that all the anschutz 22 hornets still have 223 bbls. They seem to shoot ok even with the undersized bore
