I have just this past week made a trade for a #1B in 25-06. This will be my first 25-06 and second #1, the first being a 1S in 300 Win. It will be used primarily at the range, but I feel that a move to Montana will be coming in the near future and antelope come to mind. What grain bullets would be the best medicine to use for antelope and deer?
Thanks in advance,
Tim

My perspective: I have owned several 25-06 rifles and have a very nice 1B. What I have decided is rather than various bullet weights for different applications, I would use one bullet weight for all. The bullet I selected was the Barnes TSX, 100gr and its proven effective on mulies, antelope and, so far, two nice bull elk.

It is the most accurate load I have found for my 25-06s and has the versatility to use in all field applications. Too, it has been an outstanding coyote/bobcat load where pelts are of no consequence.

Congratulations on the Ruger No1. I am confident it will serve you well.

I think you will be very pleased with your rifle.
I shot and killed my first whitetail buck with a 25.06
stoked with a Nosler 120 partition.I think the 100grn Ballistic Tip is a good all around bullet also for anything from "yotes to speedgoats.Enjoy your rifle.

I received my #1B today, the wood is not as pretty as my #1S, but then most aren't. I have mounted a new Bushnell Elite 3x9x40 scope. I have my reloading bench ready to start loading up an assortment of fodder, then off to the range. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

ive also got 2506 and use one bullet weight for hunting and varmiting. thats the nos balistic tip. it isnt the most exsplosive bullet on varmits but workds well on deer.

used the bullet and imr4831 powder this year to take my buck one shot did the job and was recoverd in a perfect mushroom just insied the hide on the far side.

i have shot 120s and havent messed with them much, the little i did didnt produce enough acuracy to mess with them.

All the bullets I have so far, are Speer 100gr Spitzer BT. I have them loaded with 51 grs. IMR 4350. I haven't made it to the range yet, but will report back how it does.

I finally made to the back yard, not the range, but I am very happy with the 25-06 so far. 100 yd 3 shot groups of 5/8ths in. ,3/8th, 5/16th, and 3/4th in., not to bad for a new rifle.

Congrats - I have a #1V in 25-06. It's a wonderful cartridge. I like the 100 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip and the Speer 70 grain TNT bullets. My rig likes Retumbo Powder stoked with CCI 200 primers.

Retumbo is a slow burning powder made by Hodgdon. It's even a little slower than H1000. It was made for "overbore" cartridges like the big magnums and heavy-for-caliber bullets. I use it exclusively for my 7mm Rem Mag (160 and 175 grain bullets) and 300 Win Mag (200 and 220 grain bullets). It just happens to also work well for the 25-06 with 100 grain and heavier bullets. My 25-06 likes Nosler Ballistic tip bullets with a full case of Retumbo.
