Does an Accubond expand as quickly as a Ballistic Tip?

Yeah. Or at least it's so close there's no practical difference.

But it sure seems to hold together better.?.

I have shot 6 elk with a 160 accubond in a 7mm Rem Mag. All did their job well as long as I did. Only caught one bullet and it retained 69% of its weight.

Very much the same as a ballistic tip for expansion. Hold together extremely well. I have killed several big bull elk with them. I recovered 1 just last month that went into point of front shoulder quartering toward me at 300 yards. Went thru several foot of elk and was bulging under 4th rib from back. Perfect mushroom w 68% retained weight.

I don't think the blood shoot as much meat but the do open I have recovered several and always have a good amount of expansion and between 65 to 75 % retention my opinion is they are the best bullet out their for killing game.

I shot 3 mule deer does with 140g Accubond from a 270 Win. 2 were spine shots so drew no conclusions. The 3rd was hit behind the shoulder totally severing the haert from its vessel. I found it laying in the body cavity. The hole coming in broke 2 ribs and created ~ a 4" hole in the rib cage. Just a spot of blood at the exit.

Thanks guys!!! That's exactly what I needed to know. I have some 140gr AB's that I just worked up for my 7mm-08 that are shooting about 1"CTC @100.

Took my first deer with these last weekend. Neck shot on a doe quartering toward me. There was a caliber sized hole going in. Broke the neck and then deflected and destroyed about 4" of spine just behind the sholders. No doubt, she went 2 feet straight down. DRT. No bullet recovered.

The small entrance hole had me wondering a little bit about expansion. With the neck and spine shattered there wasn't any way to evaluate expansion.

Thanks for the feedback!

i havent had much luck with the accubonds in anything under about 2700 to 2800 fps . the deer i have seen shot with a 150 ac and a 308 went straight in and out like a full metal jacket , and very little blood trail . i just dont think they do well on deer sized game unless you have fast velocities . ive never had trouble with the ballistic tips so i think the accubonds are harder to expand . i went back to my old trusty gamekings and ill try the accubonds in something with more horsepower . just my 2 cents .

My friends 7-08 shoots 140 Accubonds about the same speed as my 7x57 shoots 150 Partitions, little over 2700fps. They act about the same. They expand rapidly to a point and penetrate well. He's very happy with them. capt david
