I have shot .458's , 300 mags, 3.5 goose guns - but the worst I have ever been kicked is by a stout load in a muzzleloader.

Formerly owned a 5.25 pound single shot 12 ga slug gun. Fired a 3" mag slug from prone - ONCE.

2 1/4 oz turkey loads in a 10ga Browning pump with a Goodyear buttplate.

I have experenced the recoil from serveral large caliber rifles up to a .458 Win. mag. The most painful, to me, was a Mod. 70 chambered for the .416 Rem. mag. It flat out, bone deep, hurt ! Brused my shoulder from front to back !

It was a tossup between a .460 WBY Mag and a 105 Howitzer.

One of those shorty coach gun double barrels with a turkey magnum type load. Light, hard buttplate, narrow comb, lots of drop, ouch.

Old 3" mag duck loads in a Savage single barrel 12 ga. with a hard plastic buttplate. Neighbor man gave them to me when I was a teenager. Told me I needed "high power" stuff to bring down ducks.
Patterning a 12 ga., 870 pump gun with 3" magnum turkey loads is pretty brutal too.

Buddy's Ruger #1, 45/70 stoked very hot, from prone.... He got a new name that day, and 25 years later, that is the name I remember.
No fear, no doubt, all in, balls out.

Bearhuntr's 416 Taylor. Butt plate, no pad, IIRC.

Mine wasn't a rifle. It was a 6 1/2lb Ithaca Deerslayer 12 ga with mag slugs.
