I was going to say an Enfield Jungle carbine in .303 British. That was 16 years ago and I sometimes wake up curled up in the corner of my closet crying thinking about it. laugh

I've had two Jungle carbines and fired them a lot. I never knew them to kick that bad? Seemed more like a souped up 30-30 to me.

Never have shot a "big" gun like a 577 though.

.416 Rigby (because that's where my wisdom starts and machismo ends). I know that's my top limit and don't need to compete.

These reads have been plesant--to humorous--and a couple of you boys owe me a new keyboard from the coffee I spit on it.
I have never been tuff enough for some of the cannon that ya'll handle----then again I am a shooter and--for various reasons which are not political or Peta.
Thans for ALL the insight.

Nope, bought the gun new about 35 yrs. ago from a Hermans sporting goods store. Never shot a factory load through it but after a box of those reloads the gun went away. About 10 yrs. later I picked up my 300 Win. Mag.. It does the job with much less pain from the bench.

Marlin 45-70.....I loaded a 405 grain remmy to about 1850 fps outof a 7 lb guide gun. That thing killed at both ends and it took a a couple of years to get rid of the finch. I think th 45-70 would be fun to play with at sane velocities but that just hurt!

have, and have had, quite a few that range from "unpleasant" to "sell the damn thing".

bought a 3.5" chambered NEF single shot 12ga a few years ago, smooth bore with rifle sights & full camo. thought it'd be a great truck gun & backup turkey gun to keep at camp. 3.5" mags just suck in a 5 poundish gun.

worst scope cut i got was from laying down to try a steadied shot with a 45/70 in a TC Carbine..16", no brake, 400's loaded to 1650-ish from a rifle that weighed maybe 5# tops. scope split my melon & it bled like a sumbitch.

sold a remmy XCR .375ultramag, with irons it was at 7#ish, no brake. couldnt stand to shoot max loads; liked the rifle but in the end i decided if i wanted to download it to .375winny levels, why not get a .375win and pay a helluva lot less for brass, in a shorter handier package.

so i did that, went quite a bit lighter though, current .375win is 5.7# scoped, and it still gets my attention, but it also hammers deer pretty well.

With the thought of the only reason they post max loads in loading data is so you can exceed them I made up a batch of 10ga 3.5 inch 4 buck with the ole alcan al-7. team them with a armsport o/u you get my drift. they really aint that bad but you know it if you don't have it right in the sweet spot on your shoulder big boom and lots of flames!
