Is this a good caliber choice for long range hunting between 300-600 yards?

If you wanted it could go much further than that.

Outstanding caliber, but consider the recoil before you buy. I shoot my 257 WBY better than my 300 WBY most days.

The 300 WM will do nearly the same with less fuss, recoil and roar. I own both

It is a great caliber for those who can shoot it..It will not make up for poor bullet placement..As Elkmen said, the .300 win. is very close..I also own both..if given equal barrel lengths they are pretty similar..

Ruger270man,
My brother-in-law bought one along with a box of shells. I don't remember the scope but I sighted it in for him. He fired one shot and sold it.

Did you consider a .270 Wby mag? A factory loaded 130g TSX ballistics can give you dead on at 300yds and only -7.9" at 400yds. Less recoil and more than adequate for whitetails.

If you're only shooting whitetails go with a .308.

Duh, never mind. You were referring the the topic caliber, .300 WBY. When the Jarrett was created it was said to attain Wby speeds without the long freebore, and deliver .300 Winny accuracy. Mine worked well.

long freebore, if designed snug and correct, really doesn't hurt accuracy all that much, FWIW. Weatherby freebore for liabiliyt issues is too sloppy

The Weatherby 300 magnum is an excellent rifle out to 600 yards on up to elk sized game.
