The British Army has long been on the cutting edge of firearms development, and it should be no surprise that they have announced that they're choosing Glock. The choice came after extensive trials and an experimentation process in which a number of full-sized 9mm pistols were evaluated."

I know the Glock is do all-and-end-all...I would rather have a cupboard full of Hi-powers though.

Frankly I am surprised we haven't ended up with Glock being the sidearm of our military as well.

I would prefer the Glock 17 over the Beretta anyday

I prefer the glock over anything out there.

Umm, in this case it was a matter of evaluating and procuring an existing pistol, I don't see Webley & Scott's name on a modified Glock in this case. No shame in choosing Glock, but the wording of the press release is misleading.

Good for them. Better than a Beretta M9 any day.

Army and Air Force SOF already have for the most part. The big Army will be stuck with the 92F for a LOOONG time to come.

Conventional Army/Marine Corps forces will be stuck with the M9 for at least 5-10 more years, especially with all these budget cuts.

The forces that actually have a reasonable probability of using their pistol's have already switched over to Sig, Glock, and the 1911.

I get out in May so this game won't be mine anymore, either way.

Nothing wrong with the Beretta , and i would have no problem carrying it if in the Military , but would prefer the 1911 i carried when i was in the service.

You think the USAF Security Forces might be on that list of the Sig, Glock, and 1911?

The #1 reason the Army will not adopt the glock it lacks a manual safety... This was talked about several yrs ago... My buddy who is a MP remembers in Iraq going to Iraqi police stations and issuing brand new glock pistols to the Iraqis. If I remember right the Army is no longer buying new M9...

You're joining the Air Force so you might be stuck with the M9 but you'll be getting all the best Gucci gear, the tastiest chow, the nicest barracks, and the animosity of the rest of the DOD.

I'll take the Glock over the M9 any day of the week. Carried an M9 for years. Thought it was junk. Could not believe at the time (back in the mid 80's or so) that the Beretta won out over the Sig simply because of a $12 cheaper price per magazine at the time. Beretta was bulkier and less reliable. Their claim to fame at the time was "no stovepipe jams" because of the rediculous slide configuration. Not only did it not prevent stovepipes (I got more than a few), the damned slides were cracking.

Was a happy day for me when CID adopted the Sig P228 as their sidearm.

As a civilian, you couldn't give me an M9 Beretta. I'd sooner sell my left nut to buy a sidearm that wasn't junk.
