Looks like I'll be adding one of these to my have to have list grin

Savage will be offering one for around $350 that sounds good. I have heard some good things about some of the Savages but have never owned one. May have to have a Savage 17WSM laugh

Thats insane! A rimfire cartridge at 3,000 feet per second! I wonder if somebody will make a revolver for this.

Little more info:

Launching a 20-grain pill at 3,000 fps, or a 25-grain one at 2,600 fps with energy at the 400 foot-pounds and 375 foot-pound mark. That's 150 pounds more than the 17 HMR and 60 foot pounds more than the phattest .22 Winchester Magnum load. Some pundits are claiming that when it comes to wind drift and drop, the .17 Win. Super Mag. will beat the .17HMR by 50%, and leave the wind-challenged .22 Win. Mag. flapping about in the breeze.

I am sure if it's not just hype then there will be many options. It seems to be sitting in a 27 rimfire case so it's not even close to the 17hmr or even the 22mag. In reading and watching the videos I have found a couple conflicts though. One says flat from 0 to 300 and another says 4" drop @ 200. One reads good to 300 and another says 250. Either way it sounds like a must have.. shocked

Sounds like the best long range rimfire out there.

Nit picky time...... 27 cal.

To heck with the round, let's talk about the new Savage. Detachable 8 round, flush, rotary mag and less than 4.5lbs for $300 +/-. I'm fairly warm on the cartridge but a light and handy (albeit ugly as sin) truck and woods bummin gun puts me over the top.

I'm curious as to something though....... How bad will the velocity drop if/when it's fired from an 18" barrel? At this point I don't think any of us have a clue but if it's not too bad I'll be cutting it down.
