Talked to a vender who has the 600 in 358 win in good condition with lots of brass for 600 bucks. Is this an interesting proposition or just a bit odd. Comeswith a redfild scope. Buy or not? Thanks in advance for any input

Almost sure the 600 was never offered from the factory in 358 Win (350 Win mag was). Custom shop maybe?

Thanks Guys,
It was not offered in 358, just built up from the 308 offering. I am thinking just a good moose gun but wonder if the re-chambering may take a lot away from the value. I agree a 20 inch barrel may help out but the 600 was sold as a short guide gun. I will check on barrel length.

Rebored or rebarreled?
I had one in 308 and had thought about reboring to 358. Went another route but not because of the 18 1/2" bbl. That wouldn't stop me from buying it. NICE practical hunting range set up.

I tend to be a practical distance hunter, 200 or less and usually less than 100.

How much would it cost you to find a clean second-hand Rem Model 7 and rebarrel to 358Win? Rechambering/rebarrelling does take away from collectors value, so I'd assess it as how much to build something similar and do i value a Rem600 action?
One thing about the 358Win ... you'll come to love it! Cheers... Con

I'd sure buy it! The 358 is a great cartridge - deserves much better praise than it gets.

I have a ruger 358 with a 18 1/2 inch barrel. The five deer and one bear I've shot with it didn't seem tomind the velocity loss.
EVERYBODY is pro-gun, some just don't know it. When an anti-gun person is in trouble, the first thing they do is call 911 and demand that they send somebody with a gun!

I considered reboreing my 788 in .308 to 358 Win. but read somewhere that the .35 cal. bullet may cause some chambering difficulties. Don't know thats true.
Love my Ruger 77R in .358.

There is something 'bout a 220-grain flat nose (Speer), or 225-grain spitzer (Sierra) that just ends hunts in a hurry.
Another bullet I'd love to try are Woodleigh's 225-grain protected point. It's a bonded core bullet that differs from their round nose design. Reports I'm scavaging indicate penetration and expansion are outstanding even at moderate to low velocities. Sounds like a prescription for the .358 Win. Finding 'em is another matter, "out of stock, backordered", is all that's available.

My snub nose .358 Ruger Frontier is scopeless at moment but my brother is talking about a Canada black bear hunt over bait. Can't imagine anything better that didn't involve a lever and caliber over .40.
Get it and kill stuff.

Love my Ruger 77R in .358. I have a 788 in .243 that I bought new back in the 70's.At the time I was hoping to buy the 600 but it was no longer available so I settled for the next short gun I could afford at the time. I have used it only on 1 whitetail but with my by pod it has been hell on wolves and coyotes.
