On Wednesday I filled my WY cow tag in 116.(Northern Black Hills - Bear Lodge) I started chasing them in Sept with a bow and finally got it done with a rifle in Jan. I have spent over 35 days hunting them in the last 4 months. I kind of thought I was going to have tag soup this winter, but everything panned out. Anyway, what has been your longest hunt and still filled the tag?

Back several years in Idaho, I started out up north on a early general hunt, and ended up just east of Palisades Resv. With a large cow 21 hunting days later.

I am semi-retired so I spend a lot of days in the woods, usually in at least two states. Last fall I had 23 field days with a couple of tags filled.

took 14 days this year to harvest my Az archery bull. That was the longest hunt I've been on.

Good job. You should be very proud of yourself for hanging in there with everything else going on in your life.

Some years ago a couple army captains were in charge of a hunting party of about 35 guys. One of them took along his wife and new baby. They started in St Louis and hunted their way clear to Astoria, OR & back. They spend a winter along the coast where, by their records, they ate 128 elk in 1 winter. The trip lasted over 2 years.

Have had a couple hunts where I filled the tag the last day, once in the morning, once at dusk, the first a 7-day season, the other 6 days. Passed on a monster bull at dusk on the last day of a 7-day season as well, not wanting to ruin a good hunt with a lot of work.

As I recall, a fair amount of dog was eaten on that trip as well!

My longest hunts have been about 9-10 days here in Washington's Cascades. Mule deer. One elk hunt had me up in the Wind Rivers with a buddy for about the same amount of time as I recall.
