That said, I think an M1A or AR10-type weapon could take down a plane, if the shooter set up on flight paths where the altitude was low, like near an airport.
Gotta be honest, guys. Doesn't help our side one iota to be disingenuous ourselves. Your campaign to re-create yourself in the image of a 2nd amendment supporter after voting for Obama is losing momentum. However, keep struggling to get back on the right side of the fence, the entertainment value is priceless. Especially when you see yourself as now being the moral compass and legal strategist for the pro-gun movement. Isn't it about time for you to "move on"?

Magic bullets that down aircraft don't need to be from a full automatic weapon.

A Jet moving at a couple hundred miles per hour at three hundred yards would be dam hard to connect with and bring it down unless you where just dam lucky using a 308 or 223 , only a 7.62x39.

First, who specified a jet? I didn't see that in the OP, nor did I say it. Second, if you hang out near an airport you'll see just how easy a target CIVILIAN planes who are NOT evading anything would be. Third, choose your angle such that they aren't crossing at 90 degrees. The sick thing is, it'll probably happen at some point.

Landing and take off speeds of course vary with individual commercial aircraft be it prop or fan but are way under 200 mph,more like 120-160 knots. Airliners aren't designed to shed bullets like military AC and don't have a bunch of built-in redundant systems for combat situations.The airframe skin itself in many places is only .063 thick hardly enough to shed any bullet strategically placed.

A potato gun if the shot were well placed could take down a small jet. I would wager that it is damn near impossible to take down a commercial jet with an AR-15 and one mag. An AR-10 with one mag...I wouldn't bet on it. Yes the Afghan have taken down helicopters. I think you will find that they had more than one full-auto AK to do so.
I pencil CAN kill you as can a spoon if properly placed. I don't see very many rational people claiming this to be FACT and reasonable justification to ban pencils and spoons. Stating that JJ is licking toad by making the "shoot down plane" statement is not disingenuous in the least bit.
