If so, can you share ideas and photos with me? I have always been interested in the cartridge and (after I get rid of my flinching problem) want to work one up for my next out west hunt.

Any suggestions on the gun itself before I get into suggestions on the cartridges later?

Not quite a 7mm but pretty close...
Not a thing wrong with a M700 as a starting point.
Dober and Bob will be along shortly to talk you into a 7mm Mashburn.
Good luck with your project.

Have built a bunch of 7 STW's on Remington 700 Long actions. True them up, install a wyatt's mag box and a good match chamber. There are more efficient 7's, but nothing wrong with the STW either.

I have a 7mm stw built on a remington 700 and never had the wyatts mag box installed and I can run 160 grain nosler accubonds just fine.

well that was one of the first mags i had built started with 700adl in 7mm rem mag got chamber reamed out shot very well but after getting scope bit about three times got a little flintchey and when shooting paper it sure showed so i had a slimline brake installed and the groups got tight again because in the back of my mind just would not get hit by that quick start recoil but that made it louder by far and that took some getting use to shot best with h-1000

It is better to have it and not need it , than to
need it and not have it ( by master gunsmith & very wise friend )

I wouldn't do that unless I was asked.... grin

The Remington will work great for the STW....must be millions out there for rechambering.

Not you Bob... smile
"flinching problem?"
If I was looking at something like that.
I'd be looking to go smaller not bigger.
Pulling the loud lever on 85g + isnt going to help "flinching"
At all.

Dober nailed it as usual.
The 270 WCF is the mag without the belt.

[Linked Image] sorry for the crappy cell phone pic

Travis from Rbros (TMR) built this for me awhile ago it started as a regular rem 700 magnum action, he trued it up installed a broughton barrel on it, installed the wyatts box and put a brake on it, thing is a work of art. Im shooting 168gr bergers with RL22 at 3255fps. Look him up if your planning on building a 7mm I would strongly think about his new 7mm he just designed its pushing the 180gr berger at 3200fps i believe... with less powder than the STW.
