On North American big game Grizzle excluded Sierra Game Kings in a 30-06 will more than do the job. Shot placement trumps the use of any Premium bullet. Shooting them in the leg with a great bullet isn't going to get the job done. But some Nimrods just don't believe that.

My last elk was killed with and SST, but have used Serria both Prohunter, and Gameking..Also Nosler BTBT and Partition. Put in the right place, they all kill well..but for general elk hunting when I would feel the need to take a good shot under all conditions, which would include driving a bullet though the chest from a difficult angle or breaking a shouder, Nosler Part. hands down..Others may do the same job as well, but Noslers have been tops for 50 years.

I shoot the .270. I'm partial to Hornady superformance. Of the 3 bullets they offer, I prefer the GMX and Interbond. Had experience with one shot, no tracking kills on elk with both. These were 130gr.

It's the hunt, not the kill.

Nosler Accubond & Partition

Barnes TSX

I've hunted elk with other bullets, but have never shot elk with anything other than the ones mentioned above.

Latest was an accubond from the 06'. Next will be the partition out of the 270.

Depends on the rifle and, in large part, what I have loaded up or available to load when season comes.

The only one to disappoint was a 162g Hornady InterLock BTSP from my 7mm RM on a bull at around 110 yards. Center-punched a near rib, missed the far ribs or maybe nicked one before coming to rest. The recovered bullet weighed less than 48% of original even though the challenge to its integrity wasn't that great. Never used them again.

Followed that with 20+ years of using 160g Grand Slams in my 7m RM. Very effective and didn't recover one until the last year. That one destroyed both shoulder joints of a 5x5 bull and still retained over 70% of its original weight. Also about 110 yards and also made it to the far side hide.

These days I use a variety to hunt with (but haven't taken game with all of them):

120g Swift A-Frame, .257 Roberts
140g Barnes TTSX, .280 Rem and 7mm RM
140g North Fork SS, .280 Rem and 7mm RM
140g Nosler AccuBond, .280 Rem
160g North Fork SS, 7mm RM
150g Nosler AccuBond, .30-06
160g Hornady FTX, .30-30
165g North Fork SS, .30-06
168g Barnes TTSX, .30-06
170g Nosler Partition RN, .30-30
180g Barnes MRX (what's left of them, soon to be TTSX instead), .300 WM
180g North Fork SS, .300 WM
225g AccuBond, .338 WM
220g Hornady FN, .375 Win
240g Speer JSP, .44 Mag carbine
350g North Fork FP, .45-70

Since 2000:
7mm RM, 160g Grand Slam (6x5, 5x5, cow)
.45-70, 350g North Fork FP (6x6)
.300 WM, 180g Barnes MRX (cow)
.300WM, 180g North Fork SS (cow)
.30-06, 165g North Fork SS (cow, cow)
.30-06, 150g Nosler AB (cow)
.338 WM, 225g Nosler AB (cow)

They all worked just fine.

I must say 168 VLD Hunting Berger's and 162 BTSP Hornady's, in that order, out of my 7mm Rem Mag. As long as I do my part, they have always done there's.
