I've got a Remington 220 swift that the barrel is about shot out on and am wanting to rebarrel to something different. Im thinkin going 220 swift ackley, 260 ackley, 243 ackley or build another 25-284 since I sent my last one down the road. The gun will basically be used for anything under elk unless I decide on the 260 ackley or the 25-284. What would you guys do and how would you build it?

Sounds like your no stranger to AI. So I would say. 6.5x47 if you don't feel like fire forming. And if you do want to fire form. I'd take a look at this. http://www.6mmar.com/65_SuperLR.php I'd skip 220 Swifts, 220 Rockets as I dont like the shoulder angle of either one.Same same for the 260 and the 243 WCF. If you shoot alot 30 degree shoulders and long necks are your friend. dave
Only accurate rifles are interesting.

I would go .224 or .243 and skip the .25 and .264 offerings.
Just me, but I would go to 7mm instead of the 6.5 and the 6mm offerings are hard to beat.
6-284 or 243 AI in a 6mm bore or 22-250 if you chose the smaller bore.

If your Remington 220Swift has a factory barrel it is a 1-14" twist, A 220Swift with a 1-8" barrel is a whole new animal or try a 22-250AI also twisted 8.
If you want to go to 6mm my fav has been the 6mmAI also 1-8"

6.5's are what I'd look at.

Fireforming is for the birds. My 22-250AI will be a 260 someday.

If I ever do another fast 22 it will be something simple like a 22-243. No wasting powder, bullets and barrel fireforming, and no feeding issues.

I feel like an 8 twist 243 Ackley would be a total blast... Heck I'm excited for mine with a 1-9er.

Good thing it doesn't have to excite you, I suppose.
It'll stabilize 105 A-Maxes, which is the only bullet I've got major plans to shoot... 115 D-Tacs would be a hoot to use, but those will have to wait till something with a 7.5t comes along.

It'll stabilize 105 A-Maxes,
Doubtful. Mine is a 9 and won't stabilize the Amax or the Scenar. They start drifting past 100yds. Why drop money on a chamber job for something that is not proven? Get a 7.5 or 8 twist and do it right.

Brad Arnett shoots 1-9" 243 AIs and hangs sub MOA to a grand.
Not arguing with your experience Drew, I'm just confident my 9 will work fine for my intended purposes.
