Hi,

I noticed that the savage 99C that I picked up recently has a cracked spacer under the recoil pad. It's one of the black 1/4" ones, and its cracked right accross about 3/4" from the toe of the stock. The recoil pad is still epoxied/glued (?) to it, but if you push the tip of the pad away from the buttstock, the pad and piece of spacer swing away from the stock. Under the black one (next to the wood) there is another thinner white spacer that is OK.

Question:

Am I likely to be able to get the recoil pad off this broken spacer without wrecking it? I'm wondering whether it is just a replace the spacer job... or a replace the whole pad job.

Thoughts?

You can remove the pad/spacer and then sand the spacer off the pad with a good belt/disk sander. Then apply a new spacer if you need one.
