......Probably more like 35, as lots will have their kids along. Helicopter time is expensive, I hope the "Stupid Hiker" laws and charges will apply. 24 minutes ago Kimberly Matas, Arizona Daily Star (2) Comments
An estimated 50 hikers are trapped in Bear Canyon on the northeast side by water rushing through from rains earlier today.
None is in imminent danger, but deputies are monitoring gauges to determine whether the water is receding or rising and decide the best way to rescue the hikers, Deputy Tom Peine, spokesman for the Pima County Sheriffs Department, said. A Department of Public Safety helicopter is assessing the situation from the air.
Groups of hikers adults and children are trapped in different parts of the canyon in the Catalina Mountains.
They made it to the first group and they are leading them out, Peine said just before 5:30 p.m.
A Sun Tran bus is waiting in the parking lot of Sabino Canyon to take hikers back to their vehicles once all of them have been rescued.
The hikers in the Bear Canyon area did not take into account that the weather conditions earlier in the day might have a delayed effect, Peine said.

Hopefully your folks have an easier time collecting than we do. I know F&G gets stonewalled at every turn even though the law is clear.
George
FWIW, I hope those folks get out safely and nobody gets hurt in the rescue attempt.

I'm virtually CERTAIN that there are "Flash Flood Warnings" posted at the trail head these folks are all wishing they were back at, right about now.
Same old, same old.
A few quiet prayers for 'em is certainly not a bad idea.
There will be temps around freezing up there, later tonight and into the AM.

rain on snow for the last 24 hours in Flagstaff. Should be the high flow of the year in Oak, Beaver, Dry Beaver, and West Clear Creeks, and the Verde River.

Searchers in night gear continue rescue of Bear Canyon hikers
9 minutes ago Kimberly Matas, Arizona Daily Star
Most of the hikers trapped in Bear Canyon by rushing water have been rescued, but searchers are still trying to bring another 10 out in the dark.
Theyre all wearing their night gear and going back in, said Peine just after 6:30 p.m.
Between 40 and 50 hikers adults and children were stranded in different parts of the canyon when water began rushing down the Catalina Mountains from rains earlier in the day, Deputy Tom Peine, spokesman for the Pima County Sheriffs Department, said.
While rescuers on the ground monitored gauges to determine whether the water is receding or rising and decide the best way to rescue the hikers, a Department of Public Safety helicopter was assessing the situation from the air.
The first group of hikers was led out of the canyon just after 5 p.m., Peine said. Deputies used swift-water rescue techniques roping together hikers and flotation devices to walk some of them through the water. Others were flown out of the canyon by helicopter.

I used to live in Tucson and way back I thought the gooberment decided to pass a "Stupid Law" so that Goomerment could bill people to be saved from areas where signs warned them NOT to be.I haven't lived there in about 15 years (which I sorely miss) but did the law go bye bye???

Ruger,
its called the "stupid motorist law" and it is for people who drive around barricades, into flooding washes, and need to be rescued.
