Had a synthetic rifle stock up for sale on another site the other day. It was purchased using the buy it now option and promptly paid for by the buyer via Paypal. Then I found out the buyer is located in Indonesia. The questions I have are:
1. Can I ship this item to that country legally?
2. Am I risking identity theft in any way?
3. Should I just refund the buyer his money?

Any comments or knowledge on similar transactions would be greatly appreciated.

I would refund his money, and apologize for not stating that you only want to ship to the US.
I don't think that it would be worth the effort to try to ship it to Indonesia.

No/Maybe
Yes
Yes

There is a very specific reason that most sellers say US only.

I deal with this kind of stuff every single day and it's taboo. We will not cross border with anything except virtual services If you do consider selling then check the buyers credentials against the. Gov do not sell to list.

it is probably legal to ship there, but will be expesive to do so,wouldn't worry about identity theft as you have given him no info, except your email address for paypal,it would be easier on you to refund his money, but if he is paying for the shipping,I would personally ship it to him, thats just my 2 cents

Check with the buyer to see if it legal for him to import it. If he indicates that it is OK, I would take his word for it. Then it will be up to their customs inspectors if it goes through or not.

If you have already been paid for it is there a chance the buyer could reverse the payment? Makes me wonder how the buyer paid Ripoffpal or if it will come up as bad. I think I would be concerned about your Ripoffpal payment being cancelled or reversed. That is something to consider.

I really don't have any other advice for this situation.

Wondering if this buyer has any reviews? Other than that - he will have duty to pay on his end because you have to fill out a shipping information form on your end.

This is one of the most common forms of fraud on Ebay. Read the fine print. Paypal backs nothing when dealing outside the country, there is no Paypal protection offered in your case.
I guarantee you will not get your cash. Even though it show payment was made It takes longer for the account to fund from overseas and its common for overseas scammeras to use this to their advantage.
Trust me, it only LOOKS like you got paid! You don't need to go outside the US to get something sold.
There is a good reason why most will not ship overseas.

GOOGLE EBAY SCAM SEARCH!!

I feel torn about this question, because I work in Japan and I've bought a lot of items, including guns, on these forums. I always specify delivery to a US address if there is any question.

Indonesia is one country that I would absolutely not ship to. Too many scams. Also, unless you use FedEX or similar, the item likely will disappear in transit. It happens way too often.

Italy is one of several other problem destinations, by the way.

In this case, I'd cancel the transaction, myself.

In the past I have had an out of US "buyer" ask me to specify "tools" on the paperwork to accompany the item to be shipped...refunded the money and just politely decline any out of US transactions...can you 2nd chance the next highest bidder????
