That's what I carried when I was a real outdoorsman. We should compile some books. There is a plethora of outdoor knowledge here.

My son bought me that book a few weeks ago for my birthday. The name is "the total outdoorsman manual", and the authors name is T. Edward Nickens.

Pactice, practice, practice. Before you accually need the skill. There are plenty of books and videos of "how to", but NOTHING compares to the confidence one gains from doing.

I learned all the correct ways a couple of decades ago, but now I keep a jug of road flares in my vehicle, and a 3 pack in my back pack, they give 30 minutes of unbeatable fire starting ability.

most survival experts will tell yah to do similar, always carry a lighter of some sort....anything else is a PITA, burns lots of calories and doesnt always work in wet weather especially if you dont do it regularly....yeah some indian living in the Amazon knows how but he does it several hundred times a year....

A flash light, steel wool and some dryer lint work well.

Knowing how to cook a cottontail on barbed wire can be a good skill though: smile

Really? There's that much alcohol in it? I'd never have thunk it. Georgia Moon could probably start one.

what he said

if you're not well rounded in bushcraft, tis a good place to start, and even if you know a lil something, something, I still picked up some tricks.

but I've always loved this saying, "knowledge is not power, only knowledge in action equals power"

short version, practice it before you need it
