Never owned an AR rifle till yesterday. Two $5 tickets and took home a new DPMS A-15. It has a flattop receiver and collapsable stock. Are these any good? Was thinking abt making a coyote rifle out of it. Any recommendations for mods would be appreciated. John

DPMS are good soils AR. I think for 10.00 you did very well. I picked up my first AR this weekend and I got a CMMG 5.56. I'm still learning as well

Congrats, that's a good return on investment...
For coyotes, I'd add an ACE skelton stock, and have a free floated barrel in the caliber of your choice, with a Noveske NSR forearm.
Having said that, the parts named above are darn tough to find without paying the panic prices.
I've owned several DPMS lowers/uppers over the years, no issues other than a "loose" upper to lower fit on a couple.

Go get a Nikon Prostaff 4-12 for $200 and a good set of rings and you will be huntin' coyotes for years. kwg

Congrat's Scopey! Big win! You'll have a lot of fun with that DPMS. I have several and I have never been disappointed. Lot's of scope choices and absolutely nothing wrong with what KWG suggested. Even better, that PROSTAFF 4-12 is on sale at Authorized Dealer's! Discount right at the register, nothing to save and send in. Great deal on a very nice scope that will do all you ask of it. Hope this help's you decide? Drop me a note with any question's. Here's my LMT with a P-223 3-9 BDC 600 on it. http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd363/bman940/p-2233-9.jpg

Congratulations. Get a decent scope and shoot it before you do anything else. If you've never had an AR15 I think you might be surprised how accurate most are right out of the box.
You are better off spending money on ammo and practice than excesories. Its very easy to get carried away and spend a lot of money on these guns for things that may not give you much return for your money.

Anyone use a Leupold Mark AR scope? I know they make high quality scopes in general, is this particular model worth the money to use on an AR platform?
