I've got a 1971 Winchester M70 Mannlicher in .30-06 that is about to get a new scope, but I can't decide which model I want to go with. Currently it has a 1-3x Weaver, but I am going to upgrade to a Leupold. What are your thoughts on...

(1) VX-3 1.75-6x 32mm (Standard Duplex)

(2) VX-2 2-7x 33mm (Standard Duplex, but with the CDS dial included)

This is a general purpose whitetail rifle, but might see action on hogs and bigger game in the future. I had it originally set up as a <150 yard rifle, but thought a bit more magnification would be beneficial.

I would be after the 1.5-5x 20mm.

I wouldn't want a CDS dial on a scope that I didn't plan on using for turning turrets. I'd go with a 2-7x33 without the CDS. That 2-7 is a great scope for the money.

I haven't used a 1.75-6x, but I am really smitten with my 2.5-8x models (three copies and counting so far).

Sometime it is hard to tell when people are joking around here. I keep switching between a 1.5-5x20 vx-3 and an FX ii 6x36 with the lr dots on my 30-06. It is an 84L and I want to keep it as light and handy as possible. If you are keeping it light, and 300 yards or in, I'd recommend looking into deflaves recommendation.

I have a VX-R 2-7x33 on my .308 carbine and love it.

Do the improvements in the VX-3 line justify the cost over the VX-2?

I wasn't joking. I really like the straight tubes. Especially on a mannlicher stock.

I've used them both, even owned a 1.75-6X32 for a while, but none were the latest offerings.
Both are excellent. Both the newest VX2 and the current have Leupold's Diamond Coat 2 Coatings, so that is a plus in my book.
Both are very tough scopes, and both have lots of eye box at the lower and mid magnification ranges.
I like and prefer the finger tip dials on the VX3, and insist on a scope with a lock ring on the ocular to keep the scope's focus from wandering. But, in truth, assuming the new VX2's don't focus super fast like the euro's but like the current crop of VX3's, and FX3's, one can get by w/o one.
It's your call. I like both and they are quite similar. E

When you're jumping in to help an Oklahoman, it's bound to happen.

I put a FX3 6x42 on a project '06 recently. Great stuff.

The VX2 2-7 is a great scope.

Also,if it were my rifle for hog hunting in dim light or at night, I would look at the Burris Euro Diamond with the Illuminated red dot at the center of the #4 reticle.

Personally, the new VX2 would suit me fine. If you are considering a 1.75-6 Leupold, why not go with the same size scope in a 2.5-8? I've got one 1.75-6 and it's a great scope, but a 2.5-8 gives you a little more magnification on the top end for nothing.

I saw a movie where only the military and the police had guns. It was called Schindler's List.

FX-II 4x33 would be pretty sweet on that...just saying...

I appreciate y'all putting aside your differences, especially since I no longer have the distinct pleasure of living in Oklahoma. Did y'all know Kansas is full of Yankees? TONS OF 'EM...

They're all yankees. They just try to claim Confederate ties because... well [bleep] bro, they live in KANSAS. I'd try to claim something else too.

Here's a push in the right direction for your rifle.
