I recently bought a like-new Knight in-line muzzleloader, the model is BK-92. But after taking it apart and reassembling it, following the directions in the manual (of course!), it looks like the exterior of the in-line hammer is getting scuffed and scratched up a bit.

It looks like some of the scratches are happening when I'm reinserting the hammer in the gun, even though I'm holding the trigger back. Other scuffs/scratches appear in the area of the hammer where it's sliding past the trigger sear when the gun is fired.

By "hammer" I mean the cylindrical piece of metal that slides forward to strike and fire the percussion cap.

The scratches don't affect functioning, but I'm curious if this wear is normal?

Yes, scuff marks on the striker are normal.
