Now with the new forum maybe I won't be plagued by right handed pin heads offering incorrect advice???
I have a Win 70 LH in .338. Love the .338. Accuracy is, well, OK. Nothing stellar. Just never consistsant. MOA or close, which to most is good enough. But this was/is to be my Be All, End All rifle. I may need to stretch across a clear cut at near dark for bears. I need all the confidence in the rifle for a 407 yard poke.
I want to put it in a McM stock. I've had 3 Supergrades for other Win 70/MRC rifles
1. There are always several stocks that can be inletted for a LH Winchester that just don't get listed on the website. Those in The Know, anything come to mind as a potential pick for above rifle?
I do like a cheek piece but could live without one.
2. McWoody. I think it would look Classy and still semi original from 20ft in a McWoody. I've several McSwirlies. I cannot find the thread where it was discussed as to the ratios. I think there was debate over brown vs dark brown in the 33% ratio. Anyone help me out? I am worthless with this Search function
Please God, give me some good tags this year....

Doesn't apply if its CORRECT advice........
Can semi apologize but am at wits end with the 'Fire as of late. Hunter's Campfire simply too much for me to tolerate anymore. And I am impatient to hear recommendations for B&C stocks, or to look for a Brown Precision Pounder or whatever.
Please God, give me some good tags this year....

As a LH shooter I'll tell you what I did: I got an Echols Legend and have never regretted it. My M70 in 338 became a 375 and it's a very, very good rifle. 9lbs all up and lethal as hell.
The way life should be.

I have a LH 338 Win Model 70 with a McMillan Supergrade. I like it.
I also have 2 Model 70 LH rifles that have Echols Legend stocks. I like them better.
I can take a couple of pictures of them side by side for comparison if you want.

Ngrumba, Why do you like the Echols stock better?
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Ngrumba, Why do you like the Echols stock better? The Echols fits me better - the slight cast off makes it shoulder perfectly. It also has better checkering on it - D'Arcy had them redo the mold when the checking wasn't perfect. I also like the more open grip.
The forend doesn't feel as "clunky" as the forend of the Supergrade. It's not as wide and not as long.
Here is a comparison between the two. The Legend is on the top - supergrade on the bottom.

I have owned both the Supergrade and the Echols, and there is no way I would own another Supergrade after handling the Echols! Oh, and yes, both were on LH Winchester's...

I owned a stainless 338. Stocked it with a supergrade, then sold it a few years after. The stock was much nicer than the gun. Not a good era for impressive winchesters

The Hunter stock, with cheek piece and palm swell, a touch of vertical in the grip, Fantastic ergonomics.
Most who try this stock like it a lot.
I've never handled a Legend, and it's reputation precedes it, but the cost for the stock, plus all additional inletting, can be more than many care to spend on a stock.

Another thing I like about the Legend is the cross section of the forend is more oval, and I prefer it to the super grade

The Legend would be a great way to stock a 338WM.
I've seen more well-shot game lost with TSXs than any other premium bullet.
