Those are some impressive groups at 40 yds. Guess I need to try some hevi-13. I see they make a hevi metal just for turkey. What is the story on them?

I'd stick to either Hevi-13 6's, 7's or Mag Blends that contain 100% denser than lead shot. There is some new load out there now (perhaps the one you are asking about) that has some steel shot mixed in it and I see no benefit to using steel shot in a turkey load. It doesn't penetrate as well as lead much less denser than lead shot. Stick to 100% heavier than lead shot.

I have a turkey choke that has absolutely no markings on it. Is there any way to identify the maker?

Looks like a pure gold?

Pure Golds don't have that ridged line around the top like that.

That is a Star Dot, which is no longer made. They are great chokes, but tend to offer the best results in Inv, Inv+, and Accumag(835/935). They were not as good in Remchoke, but still good none the less. I've shot some amazing patterns with Star Dot chokes.

Thanks for the info. This is for my 870 and if I recall correctly, I did get some great groups with it and Federal turkey loads in #5.

After you try what chokes you have with some Hevi-13 loads, if you still want a new choke try a PureGold .670 with Hevishot magnum blends. I use a 12-3-2 oz load of that and it works.

I remembered how I got the Star Dot choke now. I had a Remchoke and a buddy had this Star Dot. We swapped chokes and I got some tremendous groups out of the Star Dot and he liked my Remchoke, so we traded. Somehow, it had gotten pushed to the back of the drawer and I had completely forgot about it.
Think I will give it a whirl again and see how it does. I miked it at .660.

Indian Creek's are the shiz! I think a feller could kill horse flies at 40 yards�. I tried just about everything out there and IC does it right.. my 2 cents

Hevi 13 is some good stuff. I'd rank it third in my shotgun; the first being straight Tungsten, then Federal Flite Control Wad - Heavy Weight Shot.

I found 1 box of hevi 13 in #6 at my dealer today. I now have 3 chokes-Remchoke extra full, Jellyhead, and the Star Dot and 3 brands of shells to try.

I have two turkey guns, a Browning Gold 24" barreled 3 1/2" chamber with an Indian Creek ckoke in it and I'm not impressed with the patterns using 3 1/2" Hevi-Shot 5's, 6's and Mag Blends. I get almost tennis ball size holes in the pattern. This is with a Leupold 2x7 scope.

My other turkey gun is a Remington 11-87 23" barreled 3 1/2" chamber with a Primos JellHead choke tube, shoots really tight and even patterns with the above Hevi-Shot shells. A Bushnell Holosight is on this gun. Good luck.

Depending upon your shotgun, I am placing 5 different choke tubes on free classifieds. I have some fairly tight constriction tubes. Cheap!

Have you tried "deep cleaning" your barrel?

It made a difference in my guns.

I like Indian Creek chokes as well as Comp N Chokes.
Been reading good things about Sumtoy and Trulock chokes too.

Define "on the long side". If it's much over 40 yards, it's going to take some special loads and chokes.

My longest shot was about 52 yards using a JH and Win. ER #5. After talking to folks on here, I determined I did not have a problem. I just need to experiment with the chokes I do have. I have a Star Dot, JH, and Remchoke.

Hevi 7's will kill way further than any of us have any business shooting at a tom. I have made a mistake in distance estimation more than once and shot at longer yardages than I really like to. In each case those toms were flat smacked down. Don't be afraid of the 7 shot. It has what it takes to get the job done in impressive style.
