Almost two years ago I posted a picture of a draft mare we got to breed with the ranches stud. We had been hoping for a colt spring 2012. Well my friend's mare came in with a nice colt and ours came in open. So we kept ours around to give her a second chance for a colt spring 2013. The stud and mares run out and no one sees them, but every few days. Well here's what turned up a few days ago. I guess she came in heat last February. Luckily we are having some really nice Wyoming January weather. It is around 50 today. The mare is just a grade percheron. She's gentle and we've packed her in the thorofare country, but we've never ridden her. The stud is in this link http://baderquarterhorses.com/twistoblue.htm

good looking colt... So, a couple neophyte questions... Assuming that the QH x draft cross will likely have a docile/tractable temperment ? Also, will the colt keep the same coloration as it matures ? Or, will the coloration change ? How you would officially describe that coloration ? Blue roan ?

Well I'm hoping it'll have a nice temperment. The mare sure does and I have two more colts out of the same stud and the ranch has a bunch more and most of them have pretty good minds. I have seen some draft mixes that really liked to buck, but I think most of those are bred for that.
Colts will very often change in shade a bit. Wouldn't surprise me if this one shed off this summer to gray roan or something. Right now she looks like a grulla to me. I don't think she'll be blue really. True blue roans shouldn't have solid white or brown.

While not 100% predictable, more often than not a colt will reflect a lot of the dam's personality.

Nice baby, Ralphie!
Agree on the QH/Percheron X Don
Had one back in the day that was a great horse. School horse, anyone could ride her, had produced a wall full of jumping ribbons.
Miss Ginger Blue started out as a slate grey and by the time she became mine was a true grey. I miss the old grey mare.

With the coon tail I was surprised not to see any Doc Bar in the studs genealogy.
