I own both stocks too. If I wanted a nice lightweight stock, I would look at the B&C. The 3 or 4 HS stocks that I own have all been drop in fits. I really havent noticed any large gaps in mine or maybe I just didnt look closely enough. If I were to buy a new one and was offered them at the same price, I would probably get an HS just because in my hands, they feel more solid. I am not saying anything negative about the the B&C as I own them too.
My experience w/ HS customer service was quite a bit different. Back a few years ago, I ordered a SPL HS rifle in .300 wsm. They said it would be done in plenty of time to use on a Kodiak Island goat hunt that I was going on in Sept. Well, it wasnt. They were having trouble getting it to shoot the 1/2" guarantee and I was told they were going to either rebarrel it or try a 200 gr bullet. I asked them to please rebarrel it as I would never shoot a bullet that heavy in the rifle. They said they would jump right on it.
About a week later, I got a call from Josh Cluff at HS and said while they are putting it together, they were sending out a brand new lightweight .300 wsm for me to take on my trip. 2 days later it arrived! Of course, the very next day, I got a call saying my rifle was ready and they were sending it out that day. I told them to wait sending mine as I would get their rifle they sent me back to them immediately. Josh told me to wait until I had both rifles at my home, then see if I liked one better than the other and send the one I didnt want back.
For me, I didnt like the feel of the lightweight one and I returned it. I was glad to see that they were very trusting sending me 2 of there rifles when I only paid for one.
