I thought I was through buying rifles until an old buddy called last month and asked if I wanted to reacquire a rifle I sold him several years ago - of course I did! Just picked it up today, saw this old stump on the side of US401 south of Raeford NC and stopped and took a few pictures with my cellphone camera. Model 70 Featherweight built in 1953, chambered in the .308 WIN.

And first blood in the afternoon for a minimauser in 6.5 GM I just built.

There are not a lot of fence posts up at this elevation.

VonGuff, your 30+ rabbits surely trumps my 2, but I won a few hands of poker too last weekend smile

I have no idea what an "XR100 in 20 VarTarg" translates too, but it looks like is is some sort of suppressed rifle. Is it subsonic? I'd be interested to hear more about it.

Von Gruff, nice looking country to be out and about in.

I have a botanical question.

In the first pic posted with the 8 rabbits there is a long, light green plant with alternate arranged leaves and a flower spike at about 8 or 9 o'clock from your rifle. It resembles the Mullein that occurs here in the U.S. Can you identify it?

Thanks,

Wayne

Brent I dont play poker so I guess you win that one. whistle
My XR 100 is the Rem single shot that I bought in 204 so I could re-chamber to the 20 VarTarg which is the 221 FireBall necked to 20 cal. I run an under 200yd load of the 34gn Nosler Shots bulk box bullet at 2700fps over 9gn Blue Dot and a longer range 35gn Berger at 3700fps with 19.2gn H4198. The Shots is zeroed at 100yds which gives the Berger a 235yd zero of the same scope setting and allows shooting from up close to way out there with just a change of ammo on the hill if need be. The berger has had a good day on the goats as well. The supressor really dimishes the sound signiture and while the supersonic crack is still evident the direction is confusing for the animal and the reduced sound allows multiple shots that would otherwise be limited to just the one.

The plant we commonly call a tobacco plant is the Mullein (verrified by my wife who knows about these things.
