Troops:
I've done a fair amount of surfing, and I can't find an image showing the gap between a revolver cylinder and its forcing cone.

Obviously, such probably needs to be taken with a macro lens and either back lighting, or a light back ground so that the gap is evident.

I want to include this in a presentation for my hunter ed classes to illustate the need for keeping ones hands/fingers well away from the forcing cone region. I already have copies of the blood and gore that accompanies that error, so no need for repeats of those photos.

If any of you have such an image, are agreeable to its use, and were willing to post it, I'd appreciate it.

Thank you,

If this doesn't get the point across nothing will.

That's what she said, too. grin

Actually, backlighting with very bright light causes that gap to appear bigger than it is.

Well I DID Google it, found a couple pics of a chopped off thumb tip, a couple threads from 2008 of some email, and some calling BS to the story. Seems if it was true, there would have been enough time to prove the point which was never done.

I'm not saying I think it's fake or from some other injury, but the injury has no burns, clean as a whistle and considering it came from an email, I do have reservations to it's authenticity.

Besides, it supposedly happened to a man yet the pic here is of a woman's hands. Here's the thumb supposedly blown off from 'hot gases':

remember to lube in front of your cap N ball revolvers! I read one place that the doubling goes through the nipples, but I still lube. Only had it happen once, ball went down the side of the barrel, really impressed me.

Be aware of who is standing next to you, also.

I wasn't using the Creedmore position and there was no fire involved, but I'll NEVER forget a lesson I learned one day when my buddy asked me to check the zero on his S&W .357. He considered me a pretty good shot and of course his request to put my skills to use had me feeling pretty good about myself.

So, I loaded a round in his Smith, found a nice tree to lean back against, raised up my knees and propped the my hands, with gun, against my thighs with the barrel of the revolver between my knees with the muzzle protruding a safe distance beyond my shins. I never gave a thought to the cylinder gap...until after the shot.

Dear Lord, that hurt so bad I think I can still feel it 20 years later! I dropped my jeans to look at my thighs, expecting the worst. What a relief - no blood! But there were hundreds of little specks of what looked like tiny, flat blood blisters. frown

I got over it none the worse for wear and came away with a pretty good lesson.
