I've got a 20 with a 6" KKM barrel. Getting chronographed 1250 with a 200 grain XTP. Anyone have experience with a long shot on deer? My deer was ten yards or so last year...and it worked....
What's your longest shot?

It depends how well you can shoot. How far away can you shoot a six inch group with it?

Clay pigeons laying on the 100 yard berm were in serious danger of my old 1076 Smith when I worked with that gun back in the 90's.
I still have two of those, and just recently picked up a G20SF, but I really haven't had time to mess with it.
The cartridge is entirely capable, now whether my eyes are at this point in my career, that is another question.

I hear ya. Probably a dumb question I just wondered. I'm guessing it will easily kill a white tail at 50 yards, just wondering if anyone had shot one any further. My eyes are in the same boat...or my sights are faulty...they don't stay focused like they used to!

I shot a mule deer buck with a Sig 226 in a 40S&W a couple of years ago at 40 yards with some hot 155g loads 1300fps and hit him a little too far back. Had to follow up and shoot again but still got him.
I had been shooting the dog out of that gun all during the summer and I was impressed with how accurate and easy that gun was to shoot. I impressed myself.

Out to 100-120 yards, if you can hit it, you can probably kill it with a 10mm.
I use Paco's Rule: shots = yards. I want to be able to put as many rounds into a pieplate as the pieplate is from me in yards before I will shoot an animal at that range. So... if I want to shoot at 75 yards, I have to hit the pieplate 75 times at that distance. If I want to shoot at 100 yards, then I make sure I can make 100 hits. And so forth.
With my 7.5" Ruger Bisley, I'm at about 80 yards, but the range has shortened somewhat in the past few years as my eyes age. Grrr.
Try it. It will make you confident in shooting living critters, or it will make you shoot closer.
