I have a new tikka T3 on the way.
Will be hunting rifle.

Are tikka rings and bases that come with it, any good?
Good as leupold?

Of the half dozen or so Tikkas I've had I can't say I ever had any problem with the stock rings. Lap em. I also like the Talley light weights. I never ventured into the Leupold mounts for a Tikka. I buy them because they are light rifles. Adding a bunch of iron on top doesn't work for me. I would have to think the Leupy mounts would be just fine though. I've used them almost exclusively on my other rifles for the last 35 years.

I have Talley Lightweights on one and Leupold bases and rings on the other. I like them both but for ease of fit, the Talleys are the way to go!

Enough already, just shoot it!

I just use Weaver bases and then you can use any Weaver-style ring.

I bought this T3 Lite SS in 2003. I didn't know about their ring setup either. So I thot I'd try them out. This pic was taken in Dec 12. I guess I'm still tryin em out. They work.

IMO you hear many things from 'purist' that's based on personal prejudice.

They are all aluminum, so lack of strength would be the only concern. I use Warne Maxima Tikka rings. I would rather trade a tiny bit of weight for the added strength. Can't see installing bases on a gun with a strong integral dovetail system already on it.

Ken -

I didn't know anything about their OEM set up so I just gave them a try. That gun is a 270 W and I run stiff handloads. That's not the same as even an 06 with STIFF loads or even larger cals.

All I'm saying is that they certainly have worked on a 270.

Also agree, WHY drill & tap a dovetail setup, IF you don't have to.

Talley light weights lack strength?? I've used them for over 500 rounds of stiff handloads in my t3 lite 338 wm with 210 ttsx and 250 partitions and a conquest 3-9. That's some serious recoil in a light gun and heavy scope. Zero problems.

What problems have you had with your Talley lightweight rings?

Do the Talley's use the dovetail?

Or is that the leupold in the great photos above using the dovetail?

Only factory ones and Warnes that I can recall. They are already drilled and tapped..

I was referring to the original question about the factory rings. I have seen some torn up pretty good from recoil. Sometimes the damage does not show till they are taken apart. The recoil pin drives right into the aluminum ring. I have not used the Talley lightweights on one so can't say how they do.

The only problem I've had with the factory set up is the screws will commonly strip. My Tikkas wear Talleys. I lap Talleys, too.
