Does anyone know why The Home Land security is getting Billions of dollars worth of ammo? I think the Government is going to dry up the supply....I have been seeing ammunition getting hard to find. Especially, 5.56 NATO. Just saying........

They are going to sell it back through the Civilian Marksmanship Program in about 10 years.

I just purchased 150 Rd's of Federal HST .45 ACP 230gr +P LE . This may be my Hog Hunting Load from Springfield 1911 , if i decide to use it on the Hog Hunt.

I've heard good things about the HST ammo. I'm mostly hemmed in by Gold Dot ammo. Thinking about running some 180 grain GoldDots through one of my 10mm's.

I'm not sure that the Gold Dot isn't the better of the two

I'll try to remember to bring some Gold Dot 155 grain 40's down when I come to the hunt.

Last fall I shot one feral pig with a 230gr +P HST, 25 yards away, out of a Colt 1911. Less than perfect placement, but it went straight down and never got back up. Seemed pretty effective, and they cost a good deal less than Speer Gold Dot ammo, at least around here.

I've got some 275 gr Gold Dots for the 480 Ruger. I thought of them more of a deer than hog bullet, but I suspect they'd work, too.

But I am kinda curious about a .454 round ball, over 50 grains of Swiss FFFg...

I am running 180gr Gold Dots in my Delta Elite 10mm. 14.6gr of AA#9 gives 1375fps with no cartridge case 'smiley faces' around the unsupported area of the case. I try to use only brand new nickel plated Starline brass for mine and that load, but have used that recipe in regular brass empties from some HSM cheap ammo that I fired in my gun with no ill effect. That load is my do it all one load for that firearm. I SO badly want to test it on a hog this year.

As far as trying it out on a hog, all you gotta do is watch the front sight and press the trigger. I'm sure the cartridge is up to the task.

I am starting to get ramped up for the trip myself. Cabin fever is driving me crazy.
