My go-to rig is a Remmy LVSF chambered in 308. The only modification is a trigger job. It wears a Leupold M8 6x42, standard duplex reticle. Very straightforward, and quite accurate to boot.

You're right ... plastic just wouldn't do! I'll just use the .338-06 if the weather gets nasty! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

i would choose a winchester 270 for my deer gun.Savage 110 model. No particulare reason other than it shoots flat, easy on the kick and a great all around preformer for me. I have shot a couple deer over 300 and quite a few yotes over 400 with it. 130 grain bullets. Oh and easy access to ammo.

If you need to remove the m70 from your colection I'm satarting an old guns home.... Made my choice earlier this year; A Kimber 84M Classic in 7mm-08. It'll replace the the P64 M70 FWT in .243 I've taken a truckload of deer with.

Kimber 84M Classic in .308 Win. with a Leupold VXIII 2.5-8X in Leupold rings on Kimber bases. Killed my biggest Blacktail and only Muley with it.....I suspect it will take many more. BTW it is an early one and has gorgeous wood. CC

Old M70 257 Roberts AI custom on a 1952 action. I'd hate to take it out on nasty days, but it's too nice to do without!
Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

Mine would be my .375. I use it for everything. Currently it carries a Leupold 3X9.

For deer alone, my Kimber 84 in 7mm-08.
One rifle for everything, would be in a .308 Win.

Anyone who chooses the 30-06 as the #1 deer round, certainly has my admiration. The 30-06 is the gold standard. Every other round is measured against it. The others will always be critiqued as "faster than, less recoil than, flatter than, the 30-06.
However, my #1 deer combo is the .300 Savage in the Model 99. Lever action, scoped, 6 rounds in a rotary mag, and a joy to handle, mount and shoot. My Grandad slayed deer for 60+ years with it. I have got my share, and now my dauyghter has blooded it. It's a killing machine.

A 264 FN Musketeer/Douglas. The rifle comes up and points. And for the long shots, there nothing better than 140 6.5mm at 3200.
You can hunt longer with wind at your back

Kimber 84M Montana in .308 w/2x7 Leupold. Light, accurate, and weather proof. Just got one and love it. Always resisted stainless/synthetic, don't know why I waited so long-best thing for nasty conditions......

For around here, my early M77 in .250 Savage with 3200 3x9. For out west, well maybe Allen would let a guy borrow that .270? Guess I'll have to take my old M700 .270, B&C stock, VXII 3x9. It's done the job for over 33 years, but a Ruger .257 Bob is giving it a run.

An A-Bolt S/S with a 3X9 VXII in,,,,,,.25WSSM. There I said it. .25WSSM. I picket it up last Sept, and it worked very well on the 3 deer I've shot with it. The 2.5" sun shade on th VXII came in handy on two of the deer. Oh almost forgot the cross-sticks.
