I just purchased the .240 mag that was for sale on the site and have a couple questions. I have read that they can be tricky to reload and get to shoot straight. Can any of our members tell me any tips that they have learned or any other advice that may help. I've been told that they like lighter bullets is this true? Thanks for any info.

Hmm, wonder why someone would say that they're tricky to load for...? Makes no sense to me at least in terms of the round..now can some of the Wby's be a challenge you betcha but certainly not all.

Grab some H4831 and 100 Horn sp and let er buck

I had one back when they first came out. I'd try H4831 or Ramshot Magnum. Not, at all fussy to load for.
I didn't use the lighter bullets. Just the 100 gr. Hdy, Sierra and the 95-100 gr. Nosler Partitions.
You might like it better if you load it just shy of the lands and if you free float the barrel. The little square plastic bag clips under the front guard screw where it meets the action. Works very nicely for that. One of John Barsness's many great tips.
Very flat shooting, easy kicking rifle, almost 3400 fps with the 95 gr. NP's.
Had one 100 gr. Hdy break up on the surface once, at 300 yds. Second shot on the ball joint, where the hip meets the spine dropped him in his tracks.
With the NP's, she will amaze you. E

Should have bought them last fall. I should be shooting this gun in the next month hopefull the weather in Mi will break. gonewest-I've not had a 240 but have gone thru a couple of 6/06 barrels which is basically the same thing.

With the heavies (95-105) I've generally used 7828,R22 or R25 and H4831.

The 95 NBT is my all time fav heavy bullet for what that's worth.

The 85 TSX is one heck of a bullet in it as well. My last barrel liked that bullet along with H4831.

The Big 6's are a blast to work with and incredibly capable!

With a Yugo 24/47 Mauser convert, I found IMR 7828 to be a laying on of the hands. (like 0.56" for the first 5 rds). Reloader 22 was running about 1" to 1.25" with a whole mess of slugs and loads.

If one goes that route to float a barrel in a well bedded action, he needs to use similar dimensioned shims front and back to avoid stressing ones receiver.
