Hey guys. I have a business meeting in Banff in early October. If I have to go that far for some work, I might as well try and get in a 3-4 day elk hunt. Does anyone have any experience in this area or know a guide I should look into or avoid? I was hoping to bring my new to me 444 Marlin.

Thanks for any tips.
Micky

Thanks for the link but their dates don't work with my trip. I have the 16-20th to hunt and that doesn't work with their schedule. Any other places???

Thanks for the help

You might want to consider a little more power than a 444 Marlin.

I don't think the 444 lacks power... but range might be an issue, depending. I've done a lot of back-country miles in the upper Highwood/Sheep area, and ranges can vary from close to pretty far. I'd more likely to take a 270 or 7mm Mag for elk up there.

Regardless, you have to get drawn first. Rifle/caliber choice don't mean jack if you don't have a tag.

I agree with Doc, have spent almost a month hunting elk just to the South of Banff...444 has plety of umphff...youd be fine in the timber but get on an open gravel bar or up on the tops and you could find youself lacking the range...
