I've been using my 223's for several seasons now on deer with several different bullets.
I've used TSX's, Sciroccos, Partitions, Power Points, Sierra Gamekings (55 & 65) and the Sierra 63 gr SMP.
I've noticed on broadside shots that the Sierras, Partition and Power Points kill much quicker with more internal damage.
What do you guys think are the TSX's and Sciroccos to tough for broadside shots? Why do you tempt fate with your consecutive list of kills by continuing to "experiement?"Pick ONE BULLET and stick with it!I've only killed three deer with the .223, and two deer with the .220 Swift, but if it was me, I'd pick the 70 grain Speer, or the 64grn Winchester, or the 60grn Partition and limit my shots to 200 yards and under, picking the one bullet I had had the best success with, and can still buy readily for handloading. Call it good and GO HUNT!

Tiny bullets like the 223 shoots are not as humane as larger bullets nor even legal in many places for that reason.

It's legal in at least 38 states but Don don't care about facts.

'99 hitting a deer somewhere fifty years ago with a Sierra varmint bullet out of a 222, and then not recovering the deer left such an impression it won't let new information seep in.
Not that many years ago I wasn't interested in the 243 as a deer rifle. As a result I passed on a nicely priced NIB Browning Low Wall so chambered. D'oh!

I wonder how many deer he would have to personally see fall via .223 before he would be a believer...

Call it good and GO HUNT! I like the one bullet concept but its not possible for the main part as I have rifles in several different twist rates. The best bullet in a 1-7 is not the best bullet in a 1-14. I just started the thread to see if others had noticed the same phenomenon I have that CNC bullets seem to kill quicker on broadside shots.

LBP-I've been in and around taking of big game via various 22's for 3 decades or. IME the standard bullets will take the game down and out quicker no doubt about it.
The Preme's do very well also, but and this is picking nits but they don't take game out as quick as CNC's.
The 55 Horn w/c, 63 Sierra and the 52/55/60 NSB's all have a soft spot in my heart cause of the good hunts I've had with them.
Bottom line, pick your bullet, and get to hunting.
Hope alls well your way.

Dober Mark, I was hoping you would comment as I thought you had said before this was your experience as well. All is well here, I hope you and yours are doing fine too.

In regards to my above comment on different twist rates need different bullets the Sierra 63gr SMP works great in every twist.

The ugly spectre of 'paralysis of choice' rears its ugly head... I was all set on using the 62 TSX this year in my .223 Ingwed, but now am having conflicting thoughts. 60 Partition, 75 Scirocco (I shoot 75 Amax's all the time), 63 Sierra? Sigh... What a nice conundrum to have, BTW.
